For the past year, computer chip business Intel was making use of BMX stunt bikes to show "Curie, " a brand new, ultra-small computer system that detects and analyzes movement. The company initially showed off the tech finally year's electronic devices Show in vegas (CES 2015), plus it seems just as if Intel is saying that demonstration once more at CES 2016.
Previously today, the Preferred Science crew at CES spotted Intel's specialists assembling some half-pipes away from vegas Convention Center in front of CES 2016, which officially commences tonight (although the convention center does not open to push until the next day, Tuesday, January 5).
The specialists said that Intel would be revealing motion-sensing microchips inside the BMX bicycles all week, but declined to offer any further details. An Intel spokesperson verified to us that Curie will be making a return to CES by means of BMX bikes.
In terms of what precisely Curie does, Intel states on its web site the microcomputer is "a whole low-power answer designed for companies interested in establishing wearable products and consumer and professional advantage products, " and it is "ideal for 'always-on' applications such as social networking, activities, and fitness activities."
Basically, Intel hopes that Curie becomes an integral part of clothing and sports equipment soon — "Intel in" for your sports gear. Imagine in case your athletic shoes could immediately sync with a phone app to show you data on the workouts, all without you having to wear any additional physical fitness trackers. That may be possible because of the reasonably tiny Curie processor chip, which steps only 0.7 inches in diameter (20 millimeters).
In order to make this vision of the future possible, Intel launched an innovative new software development system for Curie in August, which may enable coders and computer software designers from other businesses to quicker develop apps around Curie. Intel will most likely chat more about that software offering at CES 2016. In between some ill backflips, obviously.
